When Robyn Jones really wants to relax, she strolls along the unspoiled mountainside of her Colorado home to visit her horse, Winddancer, the muse on her behalf company name and logo. There, she will also appreciate the abundance of wildlife inside the adjacent National Forest including mountain lions, bear, elk, chipmunks, and antelope, all of which further inspire her designs. Winddancer designs are inspired by Robyn’s extensive travels through the United States, Australia, Europe, and Asia. An avid photographer and quilter for more than 20 years, Robyn brings together her photography, art, and quilting skills in designs for travel quilts that currently include the United states of america State Quilt Series, the Australia State Quilt Series, the Here Wildlife Series, and also the Military Series honoring our U.S. service people.
Every Winddancer state quilt design is planned to show facets of specific states while mixing architecture, floral, wildlife, and history in to a cohesive quilt picture. Since neighboring states share many features, landscapes, and sports activities, blocks may be interchanged to personalize your quilt with your own experiences.
Robyn works closely along with her Australian artist husband, Kevin, and every design is sucked from actual life experiences or photographs of her travels. The completed designs are generated into a computer template that is separated into layers and pieces for quilting, then many versions are supposed to get the best coloring for the final quilt. Importantly, each quilt design needs to be planned using a common palette of colors. This permits blocks to become interchanged along with other state and country designs, so quilters can create their own “Travel Quilt” or “Where I’ve Lived Quilt.”Winddancer Creations quilts are made with simplicity in mind so that entire families can enjoy creating a special quilt. Hawaii designs can be used as an eye on a family’s travel experience plus some blocks, for example the Wild Mustangs block from the Utah State Quilt design, can be created by children as early as 10-14.With Winddancer designs, color and layering are employed extensively to make detail. Patterns using their company designers tend to be much more complex and require advanced techniques or numerous years of quilting experience.
