Regional bursary prize named following the Victorian newspaper group publisher George PR Pulman continues to offer sponsorship to get affordable causes.
Many West Country communities understand the name George Pulman well. He or she is considered something of the Victorian media mogul who founded Pulman’s Weekly News in 1857.
His media brands continued to be a prolific news source for more than 150 year through the entire prime agricultural counties of Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
Pulman’s news was always renowned because of its reliability and trustworthiness. The fact that was published by Pulman’s journalists could be thought to be being true.
What people may not know is always that George Pulman have also been an ongoing committed Christian who worshipped regularly at his local town church in Axminster, Devon.
To help rouse local attendance, George would enthusiastically have fun playing the church organ with a Sunday morning. There he continued the meet and marry his young wife, who was simply likewise drawn to turned into a regular member of precisely the same Axminster congregation.

The bursary prize has made donations costs 12 months to the Bibic Football Fundraiser in Yeovil, the Dorset Blind Association as well as the output of new talking newspapers and recorded books for that elderly and partially sighted.
Of late the Pulman’s Award aids fund the publication of the group of skills training workbooks and specially tailored courses designed to help ex-offenders find work and rebuild purposeful lives back within the community.
Hundreds of leaflets and booklets have also been distributed across the West Country to help enlighten young people concerning the risks of drugs and addiction.
Publishing, in every its various forms, remains to be as relevant today in only the same way that it was when George Pulman was alive.
It features a great power to do good.
Our British free press heritage and local news media are invaluable communication tools that – when used correctly – may make society a greater place.
