Keeping up with the expression “it is what it is”? Exactly what does that expression mean exactly?
Before I understood the deeper meaning of this expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru from the lotus position floating over the ground imperiously imparting wisdom that will take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Seeing as how this really is my last life on the planet along with the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the Course In Miracles would help me clarify its meaning.
What is the IT that we’re currently talking about here? In accordance with the Course in Miracles, IT is truth, specifically God’s truth. How come it’s important to emphasize that it is God’s truth? Because God’s the fact is not open to interpretations whereas a human’s truth is. Multiple versions of human truth have lead to a many religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion as being a “system of thought, feeling, and action that’s shared by a group which provides members a thing of devotion.”
Who devised the device of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? In accordance with the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal would be to go back to a perfect condition of being. There’s no thought or action in the state of being, you only are. What mustn’t be forgotten will be the underlying thread of most religions: God is creator, God is love and we are all perfect and infinite kids of God.
Put yet another way, “it ‘s what it is” might be rewritten to “God’s love will be the only truth and it’s also absolute” this also truth knows no bounds which is timeless.
